Las Tunas (province), westernmost
Cuba's eastern region and known as "balcony of the east".

The topography of the province is mostly plain. Along the
north coast there are several bays among which is worth-mentioning
the bay of Puerto Padre, one of the most important of the
country. The coastal zones are low, swampy, and populated
by thick mangrove-tree communities. Economical activity is
characterized by agriculture, especially sugarcane production,
and cattle raising. Industry is represented by mining and
